Mando Group to bridge skills gap at BIMA Digital Day

At Mando Group, we believe in giving it back to society - especially when it comes to digital...
As part of our corporate social responsibility initiatives, we are excited to once again participate in the BIMA Digital Day, where we’ll take our passion for digital innovation beyond our office walls and into the lives of young, eager minds.
According to the Centre of Economics and Business Research, the UK is losing close to £20bn due to a lack of technological and digital talent. With the digital sector growing faster than the overall economy, it is evident that the industry is facing a skills shortage.
The BIMA Digital Day on November 8th is an attempt to bridge this skills gap, as eight of Mando Group's experts will spend time with around 240 Year 10 students from The Studio School at their Liverpool campus.
This full-day workshop will allow students a sneak peek at what a career in digital looks like, as they become digital practitioners for a day. The students will compete in a nationwide competition for the chance to win £500 for their school as well as other exciting prizes for themselves.
This year’s business challenge is provided by Vue, and they want to know... “What would make YOU choose cinema over another leisure activity?”
While the cinema sector is recovering in the post-pandemic world, the rise of streaming platforms has only made people more likely to stick to their personal screens. Our team will be on hand to help students brainstorm innovative solutions about how digital can be used to drive change in the sector.
Our employees have always found these experiences incredibly rewarding. Speaking about his previous experience, one of our Senior Software Developers, Glynn Powell said: “My lasting memories of the day were individual students who showed amazing enthusiasm, confidence and potential to work in the digital space.
“I was especially astounded by some of the pupils’ confidence to create and present complex ideas to an audience in a language they had recently learnt.
“Being local to Liverpool, I was proud to see what a multicultural environment The Studio School had generated.”
Explaining why we partner with BIMA and support their Digital Day, Jon Seal, Strategy Director at Mando Group, said: “Digital Day provides an amazing opportunity to go back to school and remind ourselves why we've built careers in digital.
“The students we've engaged with over the years approach the national challenges with fresh ideas and see endless possibilities. It's humbling as a practitioner to be able to both inspire the next generation of digital and also be inspired by them."
At Mando Group, our vision is to make digital work for everyone and this event fits right in with that ideology.
