As every new financial year comes around, we choose a new charity to support throughout the forthcoming year.
Last year’s chosen charity was Liverpool based Chasing the Stigma, a charity organisation aiming to remove any unnecessary stigma attached to mental illness, and to provide a signposting for support via their app “The Hub of Hope”.
For the 2020-2021 financial year, we wanted to choose a charity that closely aligns with the sectors we are currently working within.
This year, we have decided to support two charities instead of one, The British Red Cross and Water Aid.
One of our current clients, the British Red Cross is the United Kingdom’s body of the worldwide neutral and impartial humanitarian network the International Red Cross.
Formed in 1870, the British Red Cross help people across the UK, like refugees or asylum seekers, supporting people when they return home from hospital, helping people with disabilities to live independently and assisting people to find their missing families. They also work with communities during crises like the recent flooding and the current COVID-19 challenge.
Water Aid is an international non-governmental organisation, focused on water, sanitation and hygiene. It was set up in 1981 as a response to the UN International Drinking Water decade.
Working in some of the toughest places in the world, Water Aid develop clean water, toilets and good hygiene, enabling entire communities to unlock their potential, break free from poverty and change their lives for good.
This year, we have split our Mandonians into two groups, with one group holding fund raising activities to support Water Aid, while the other team raises funds for The British Red Cross.
Throughout the year, we will tally up what each team has raised, announcing a winner at the end of the forthcoming financial year.
